November 8th, marks. This week, in the sermon series,
Gaining Wait, Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes' sermon "Here Comes The Groom! " will focus on
Matthew 25:1-13.
Notes from the Bench
Prelude: “Concerto for Two Trumpets in C Major, RV 537: I. Allegro” by Antonio Vivaldi
Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets is one of his most recognizable instrumental works and his only surviving concerto featuring trumpets. The first movement, marked Allegro, opens with a bright, energetic exchange between the two trumpets. Listen for the interplay between the instruments as they trade and echo musical phrases, showcasing the brilliance and excitement of the Baroque concerto style.
Offertory: “Built on the Rock” arranged by Shackley
Although it isn’t included in the United Methodist Hymnal, “Built on the Rock” offers a beautiful reflection on the foundation of our faith. The first verse reads:
Built on the Rock the Church shall stand,
Even when steeples are falling;
Crumbled have spires in every land,
Bells still are chiming and calling;
Calling the young and old to rest,
Calling the souls of those distressed,
Longing for life everlasting.
The text reminds us that the Church is more than its physical buildings. Even as earthly structures change and fade, the faith we share in Christ endures, continuing to call and welcome each generation.
Postlude: “Concerto for Two Trumpets in C Major, RV 537: III. Allegro” by Antonio Vivaldi
The concerto’s final movement returns with another lively Allegro in triple meter. The two trumpets take turns leading with brilliant, spirited passages, building toward an exuberant conclusion.
Worship Service will also include hymns For All the Saints (vss. 1,2,4 & 6), Come, We That Love the Lord, and Ye Servants of God.
Come join us at 9:00 a.m. as we Worship Together this Sunday. We hope something in this music and message uplifts and strengthen your spirit. You are always welcome here.
