June 28, 2026 – "Running into God" – Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes

June 28th marks the 5th Sunday after Pentecost. This week, in the sermon series, "The Wrestler", Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes' sermon "Running into God" will focus on Genesis 28:10-19a.

We assume that our worst moments — the ones where we are most alone, most exposed, most deserving of abandonment — are precisely the places where God is not. God shows up on the road away from everything, to a fugitive sleeping on a rock, and says: I am with you. I will not leave you. Not when you get back. Now. Here. This.

Notes from the Bench

We are pleased to welcome guest organist Lawana Stoker this morning. The music for worship reflects themes of God's guidance, presence, and faithfulness found in today's scripture, Genesis 28:10–19, and Pastor's message, "Running into God."

The prelude features Richard Elliott's meditations on Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me and Rock of Ages, hymns that remind us of God's steady guidance and unfailing grace. During the offertory, Johann Sebastian Bach's majestic Prelude and Fugue in F Major demonstrates the beauty and order that Bach believed reflected the glory of God. We conclude worship with Gordon Young's joyful Prelude in Classic Style, sending us forth with confidence and praise.

Like Jacob, who unexpectedly encountered God at Bethel and discovered that "surely the Lord is in this place," may we be attentive to God's presence in our own lives and leave worship renewed by that assurance.

Come join us at 9:00 a.m. as we Worship Together this Sunday. We hope something in this music and message uplifts and strengthens your spirit. You are always welcome here.
