August 16, 2026 – "Crowded Table" – Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes

August 16th marks the 12th Sunday after Pentecost. This week, in the sermon series,

"Crowded Table", Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes' sermon "Even Dogs Get Crumbs" will focus on

Matthew 15:21–28.

We draw circles around our tables — of worthiness, belonging, who counts as

neighbor — and dress those circles up as theology or tradition. We are usually

sincere about it. That is what makes it so dangerous.

The woman outside the circle refuses to accept her exclusion, and Jesus —

remarkably, uncomfortably — lets her change the terms of the conversation.

The table gets bigger. It is always getting bigger. That is not a threat to

those already seated. It is the best news they have ever heard.

We welcome organist Ashley Strawser as she begins our service with the prelude music: Meditation on "Sing a New Song" arr. Mary McDonald.

Worship Service will also include the hymns We Gather Together, Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus, and Blest Be the Tie that Binds. The Anthem, One Faith Alone, will be performed by Tom Fettke, soloists-Jeff Harris and Laura Tongring, flute.

During the Offertory, we will hear Song " Herzlich tut mich erfreuen (My Heart Rejoices) " by J. Brahms. May today's music inspire gratitude, hope, and trust in the God who continues to guide us.
