The 5th Sunday of Easter
May 3rd marks the 5th Sunday of Easter. This week, in the sermon series "Surprise! The Unexpected Acts of God" Rev. Dr. Sam Parkes' sermon "An Astonishing Imitation" will focus on Acts 9:36-43.
By imitating Christ, we become more like him and bring other people's attention to his glory.
Notes from the Bench
This Sunday’s organ music highlights two pillars of the repertoire, offering both expressive depth and vibrant energy.
The prelude is the Fugue from Prelude, Fugue and Variations by César Franck. This beloved work reflects Franck’s richly lyrical style, shaped by long, singing lines and warm harmonic colors. The Fugue unfolds with gentle intensity, building organically to a serene and noble conclusion, inviting a spirit of reflection and prayer.
Our offertory, The Gift of Love, pairs voice and organ in a setting of the familiar hymn tune O Waly, Waly. Its flowing melody and heartfelt text remind us that love is the greatest gift—patient, selfless, and enduring.
The postlude is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude in G Minor, BWV 535, a work full of rhythmic drive and dramatic contrast. Its energetic passages and bold gestures provide a joyful and confident sending forth as we go out into the world.
We are pleased to welcome guest organist Yun Wei Yu this morning, and we are grateful for the artistry shared in today’s service.
Worship Service will also include the hymns Come, Christians, Join to Sing, Precious Lord, Take My Hand, In Remembrance of Me, and Up from the Grave He Arose.
Come join us at 9:00 a.m. as we Worship Together this Sunday. We hope something in this music and message uplifts and strengthens your spirit. You are always welcome here.
